Why we support the Families of the Fallen

At My Warrior’s Place, we support the families of the fallen because when a service member dies, the sacrifice does not end with them. The family left behind carries that loss for a lifetime. Memorial Day is not simply about barbecues, sales, or enjoying a long weekend. It is about remembering the men and women who gave their lives in service to this country and recognizing the families whose hearts were forever changed by that sacrifice.

For many Gold Star families, Memorial Day can be one of the hardest days of the year. While the world celebrates freedom, they are quietly remembering the empty chair at the table, the dreams that never got fulfilled, and the loved one they never got to bring home. It is a day filled with pride, but also with grief that never truly disappears.

That is why My Warrior’s Place believes it is so important to provide a safe and peaceful place where families of the fallen know they are understood. Sometimes healing begins simply by being around others who “get it” without words needing to be spoken. It is important that we never allow the sacrifices of our fallen heroes — or the sacrifices their families continue to make every single day — to be forgotten.

Memorial Day should remind us that freedom has a cost. Behind every flag placed at a gravesite is a story, a family, and a life that mattered deeply. Remembering them is not just something we do once a year — it is a responsibility we carry forward with gratitude and honor.
